About Swaraag

Born in the majestic lands of the Rajasthan, Swaraag is a folk-fusion band hailing from Jaipur. The band brings forth the best of the traditional Rajasthani music amalgamated with modern instruments to create a mellifluous experience for the audience.

The talented band members have spread the magic of the traditional Rajasthani Music in many cities and shows (private and government) with equal success and are quickly becoming a household name and first choice for the show performances.

Today most of the bands are swayed by the popularity of rock and electronic music, Swaraag gives a unique touch to the music with its traditional instruments which sends the ‘Padharo Mare Desh’ message and reminds all the listeners about the warm and welcoming culture of the Rajasthan.

Arif Khan was a freelance musician, who used played ‘Zitar and Sitar’. The first bond of the band was formed in 2014 when the talented Arif Khan met with Pratap Singh in a concert. They both hit right away and after few more meetings and conversations, Arif was convinced with Pratap’s vision that folk music can be evolved to match the taste and expectations of the audiences and ever-changing interest of the listeners. And for the next 8 months, they experimented with the music with other talented musicians-- Wahid Khan on ‘tabla’ and ‘Idris Khan’ on guitar and successfully evolved the folk music out of its limited possibilities and exposed it to the countless possibilities of the modern day instruments.

Meanwhile, the time slipped away like sand from hands and by the end of 2014 the name ‘Swaraag- an Indo-Western fusion band’ was suggested by Pratap and everyone agreed to it. Soon the band started receiving the queries for corporate and wedding events and the day came when the band was introduced to the public with Asif Khan as a lead singer of our band including Sajid Khan on Drum, Hansraj on Khartal, Tashruf Ali on saxophone.

As the band gained popularity, requests started pouring in. The band took the challenge, worked hard, evolved its prowess and came up with new genres for the new generations namely Rajasthani Folk Fusion, Sufi Fusion, Instrumental Fusion, Bollywood Mashup and Gazal.

As the band gained the fame, suggestions for improvement also started pouring in. To meet expectations of the new fans, the team decided to add the octopad or keyboard in the band. But, Pratap’s vision to keep the band acoustic was clear so, rest of the members decided to play (whatever the music) directly via instruments and any electronic help (patches) was ruled out as an option. The band today perform live shows on instruments such as Zitar, acoustic guitar, acoustic drum, and tabla.

Swaraag's performance carries the soul of the folk and Sufi music which includes Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Punjabi Sufis. Apart from creating unbelievable instrumental fusions, Swaraag mesmerizes the audiences with their jamming sessions, which include the Indian Classical instruments and Western instruments.
