A voice shaped by tradition
Asif Khan was born into music. Trained from childhood by his father, Ustad Mahmood Khan, he showed his talent early and stepped onto the stage for his first show at just six years old. Years of formal training have polished a voice that is still raw, powerful, and versatile, and that voice is the signature sound of Swaraag.
Sufi depth, Rajasthani spirit
Asif's honeyed voice carries the culture and tradition of Rajasthan. Listeners often hear echoes of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in his Sufi style. He sings from the deepest core of the soul, and audiences feel it instantly.
A rising maestro of the harmonium
When Asif sits down at the harmonium, it's clear he is on his way to becoming one of its great masters. His style complements the rest of the band, and his left-hand play builds a constant, living connection with the audience.
Beyond the stage
Off stage, Asif is a die-hard sports fan. He never says no to a game of gully cricket, and he's just as happy watching kabaddi and cricket on TV.
Before Swaraag
Before joining the band, Asif competed in several singing contests and was runner-up on Doordarshan's national talent hunt, Bharat ki Shaan.
